We’re Launching our Accessible Instrument and Technology Library to Support Inclusive Music Education

Mon 2 February 2026

Dorset Music Service is proud to announce the launch of its Accessible Instrument and Technology Library, a new initiative designed to give settings across the county access to a wide range of adaptable and accessible musical instruments. The library aims to ensure that every young person can participate in music making, with tools that inspire creativity and meet a diverse range of needs and abilities.

Adaptive and inclusive instruments such as SoundbopsODDballs or maybe a Blipblox could help make your setting’s curriculum music more accessible for your students.

And best of all, it’s free for the first term! This is a limited time Special launch offer – borrow up to five items (a set or a mix of items to try!) from the library free for the first term of hire (subject to availability.)

This new resource supports teachers in confidently integrating inclusive instruments and music technology into both curriculum delivery and instrumental learning. Developed with direct input from Dorset educators and specialist practitioners, the library reflects DMS’s commitment to ensuring music is accessible, enjoyable, and achievable for all learners.

We want you to be able to to play with, experiment and understand more about how they could enhance music-making with your young people.

There are step by step guides available, as well as links to support videos from experts to support their use – they really are accessible, so please don’t worry about not knowing enough already.

The library is:

  1. Comprehensive – providing instruments and resources suitable for mainstream, specialist, and alternative provision settings.
  2. Responsive – shaped in collaboration with experts and teachers across Dorset to meet real classroom needs.
  3. Usable by all – designed for both specialist music teachers and general classroom practitioners, ensuring accessibility regardless of musical background.

Schools can hire instruments through Nexus, alongside existing DMS services, making access straightforward and flexible.
