Youth Music Wessex
This event is running from 14 February 2026 until 4 July 2026. It is next occurring on Sat 7 March 2026 9:15am.
Wessex Youth Orchestra
The Centre’s largest and best known ensemble is its Youth Orchestra – the WYSO, directed by London musician Susanna Riddell. The orchestra’s diary includes regular performances at Lighthouse, Poole’s Centre for the Arts, and across the UK and on international tours. With specialist sectional training and connections with both the Bournemouth Symphony and London Philharmonic Orchestras, this orchestra is one of the most exciting and successful regional youth orchestras of today.
Youth Music Wessex Ensembles and Conservatoire
Whilst the Youth Orchestra offers access to a wide range of musical training and experiences for the Youth Music Wessex’s more advanced musicians, the Wessex Ensembles remain equally important. They provide vital training for our younger musicians in both the foundation and intermediate stages of their musical education. There are two string orchestras and two concert wind bands, a recorder ensemble, and classes for beginners (brass/recorders/musical explorers), one-to-one instrumental lessons and this ever expanding range of Saturday morning activities is complimented by one-to-one aural training (grades 1-8) and music theory classes, covering the necessary knowledge of grades 1-5 ABRSM Music Theory.
