Dorset Music Service is delivering an exciting new project in partnership with local libraries as part of the Summer Reading Challenge, “Read to the Beat.”
Throughout July and August, DMS will be bringing live musical activity into libraries across Dorset, helping to celebrate the theme by inspiring a love of music alongside reading. Families will have the opportunity to experience live music demonstrations, meet musicians, and ask questions about instruments and what it’s like to learn and play them.
These live music sessions will be happening at:
- Blandford Library 29 July – 10.15AM
- Upton Library 29 July – 12.15PM
- Corfe Mullen Library 29 July – 2.15PM
- Littlemoor Library 19 Aug – 12.15PM
- Weymouth Library 19 Aug – 10.15AM
- Dorchester Library 19 Aug – 2.15PM
- Gillingham Library 20 Aug – 10.15AM
- Sturminster Newton Library 20 Aug – 12.15PM
DMS will also be offering interactive Music Technology workshops through YuStudio, offering hands-on experiences in creating music using digital tools.
These are drop-in sessions, so participants are welcome to stay for as long as they wish.
This Music Technology initiative provides a fantastic opportunity for young people to explore what it means to make music, sparking curiosity and encouraging them to begin their own musical journeys within their local communities.

Some libraries are asking families to book in advance via Eventbrite, so please check with your local library website to see if booking is required.
These workshops are part of DMS’s mission to make high-quality musical opportunities accessible to all, helping to break down barriers such as rural isolation and financial constraints.
