This is a casting call from the fantastic Diverse City.
Loud. Live. Unapologetic.
The Other Life I Lead is a high-energy piece of gig-theatre that explores identity, belonging and the versions of ourselves we’re taught to keep quiet.
Set in a small seaside town, the show follows a group of young people caught between staying put and stepping out. Through live music, storytelling and raw performance, they wrestle with who they are, who they’re expected to be, and what it takes to live out loud.
Part gig, part confession, part coming-of-age howl, The Other Life I Lead blends punk-rock grit, pop ballads and acoustic storytelling into a fiercely joyful celebration of queer and disabled lives.
At its heart, the show is about masking and unmasking: code-switching to survive, learning when to blend in, and deciding when it’s time to stop censoring yourself. It centres queer, disabled experiences as powerful, complex stories and worth amplifying.
The Other Life I Lead is both a celebration and a provocation. It asks: What happens when we stop editing ourselves? And who do we become when we finally take the stage as we are?
This is musical theatre that doesn’t behave. This is a big night out with something to say.

We’re looking for five outstanding young actor/musicians (aged 18-30) to help us to create The Other Life I Lead.
In particular, we’re looking to find performers who identify as LGBTQIA+ and/or disabled to lead this show.
This is not a standard casting call. It’s a call to action. We want to find bold young people who care about change. We’re looking for artists with fire in their bellies and something to say. At Diverse City, we’re building a fairer arts world. We believe everyone should make art and experience art. Everyone should see themselves represented onstage.
Theatre can shift culture and challenge power. It can open hearts and change minds. We’re making work that pushes for a more inclusive world.
If you want to use your voice and creativity for change, join us. Be part of a movement.
You don’t need formal training — we’re interested in you, your skills, and your point of view.
