Canadian Musician presents a Celebration of Forgotten Female Composers

Part recital and part storytelling, Wonder Women – a captivating project by acclaimed Canadian pianist Sarah Hagen – shines a spotlight on the extraordinary lives and works of forgotten female composers from the 18th and 19th centuries. This March, Hagen returns to the UK for a thirteen‑date tour of her celebrated production, including three special performances in Dorset presented in partnership with the local arts charity Artsreach.

“Her comic timing is as solid as her musical meter.” The Edmonton Journal

Renowned for her expressive artistry and warmly engaging stage presence, Sarah Hagen brings a unique blend of virtuosity, humour, and heartfelt storytelling to Wonder Women. With characteristic wit and insight, she guides audiences through the music and remarkable histories of composers such as Clara Schumann, Cécile Chaminade, and Agathe Backer Grøndahl, among others – women whose contributions to the classical canon have too often been overlooked.

“Hagen is one of the most expressive piano players that I have ever seen perform”

The Guardian, Charlottetown CA

Hagen’s extensive international career has taken her across Canada and throughout Europe – including Sweden, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy and the UK – and twice to Carnegie Hall in New York City. She has been honoured as Artist of the Year by both Ontario Contact and the BC Touring Council, in recognition of her innovative artistry and deeply compelling performances, and her concerts are celebrated not only for their musical brilliance but also for her ability to create intimate, memorable moments, weaving together exquisite piano playing with her signature dry humour.

Hagen invites audiences in Dorset to rediscover the vibrant and distinct world of classical music through Wonder Women – with performances in Chetnole on Friday 6 March, Litton Cheney on Saturday 7 March, and in Winfrith Church on Sunday 8 March.
